Mumbai FC and Aizawl FC earns a point each in their encounter at the Cooperage Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai FC are desperate to even scores with Aizawl FC after losing to the I-League debutants in Aizawl, in a match that ended 2-0 in favour of Aizawl FC, the home team were clearly the better team and scored two goals in the second half to register their second home win of the season.


Khalid Jamil made some changes from his starting eleven against Sporting Clube De Goa, the visitors made just one change from the team that lost to Bengaluru FC a week ago, Bta made way for Msa in the middle of the park.


The match starts with a bang, before the fans have time to settle their nerves Mumbai FC scored the first goal of the game from a penalty kick after the referee blows his whistle for a hand ball by Aizawl FC’s wing back Lalruatthara three minutes from the first whistle. Ryuki Kozawa stepped up to take the penalty kick, his perfectly placed kick was beyond the reach of T. Mawia, though the keeper dived in the right direction.


Aizawl FC responded well after suffering an early blow, the men in red showed character and resilience to go on and control proceedings in the game. We were constantly on the attack looking for an equaliser, Albert had an effort a few inches over the bar in the 11th minute. Mumbai FC at many times defended well and deep, our forwards did their best and have some blunt shot on target but were unable to score an equaliser until the 18th minute.


GOALLLLL – Albert who assisted our two home goals against Mumbai FC played as eye catching as ever, beating his defender down the flanks time and again. The right winger raced past and dribbled past a few more to take a shot and score from close range in the 19th minute.


Aizawl FC attacked in numbers, the home team defended well and managed to create a chance at goal on the break from their fast counters. Mumbai FC have a chance to add to the score in the 41st minute by a defensive error, Zothanmawia who stands between the posts made a fantastic save to keep the scores level at the end of the first half.



The second half is the same story, Mumbai FC once again scored early in the second half. The home team scored their second goal in the 57th minute, Eric Brown’s free kick to the near post bounced its way into the net after Zothanmawia miscalculated the direction of the ball, Brown who have been the most menacing Mumbai FC player left the visitors trailing, its Mumbai FC 2-1 Aizawl FC.

Aizawl FC equalised six minutes after conceding the second goal, Albert once again beats his marker on the right, whips a cross into the box, Mumbai FC’s Nabi slips the ball into his own net.


We had our chance to take the lead in the 72nd minute, Albert and David worked up a nice ball for Joel Sunday, the forward whips his effort across the goal. Captain David too had his effort a few inches away from the near post after a neat play with Albert down the right flank.


It was a close shave for Aizawl FC when Eric Brown’s free kick hit the far post in the 88th minute.


The extra minutes saw our men on the attack, Alfred and Joel combined inside the box to create a chance, Alfred takes the shot, but his effort was misdirected leading to a goal kick. In the minute that followed Alfred took a long shot, S.Ghosh catches the ball firm and well.


The referee blows the final whistle of the match. An entertaining match, two goals in each half.
