Aizawl FC 2-3 Kingfisher East Bengal

Today we played our eleventh league match which is also our sixth home match in the ongoing Hero I-League 2015-2016. The game went off to a good start under the bright sky and fair weather of Aizawl, the teams really needed a win to boost their current form, Aizawl FC needs to make best use of their home advantage and go all out for the three points while on the other-hand Kingfisher East Bengal will do their all to end their spell of bad away games. The picturesque Rajiv Gandhi Stadium saw a lot of fans turning up for the match as local football idol S. Malsawmtluanga made it to the starting eleven along with Robert Lalthlamuana Captain of Kingfisher East Bengal. The crowds were loud and cheering for their team as both teams play a beautiful attacking game, their roars were especially loud when local boy Brandon VL Remdika scored the first goal of the match early in the 20th minute.


The match started off with the visitors playing their attacking card, two shots on target to warm the hands of Soram Poirei a few minutes after the start. Aizawl FC too did create a few half chances in the minutes that followed as both teams were goal bound each time they have possession of the ball.


The first goal of the match came in the 20th minute, Yuta lobs in a cross from the right, Alfred clever shields the ball to feed Brandon who was rushing into the box, the pacey winger made no mistake with his right and delivered a powerful low shot which Baretto failed to push clear. 20minutes into the game, the score read 1-0 in favour of Aizawl FC.

The away team used their first substitution in the 23rd minute after Cavin came in for Mehtab after he picked and injury half way into the first half.

The home team had a chance to double their lead in the 28th minute from a free kick by Captain David Lalrinmuana, the ball was cleared off the goal line to the relief of the away team.

The home team continued to dominate proceedings as Kingfisher East Bengal were unable to get a firm grip of the game. Till the end of the first half the game turned into a barrage of shots for Aizawl FC as the home team takes their chances on goal, though only a few were on target.


After the restart it’s the home team that were more vibrant, not just with their red jersey, their flamboyant attacking play was a beautiful sight to see.


The away team made their second change, Head Coach Biswajit brought in Bikash Jairu who was on target the last time the two teams locked horns.


The home team doubled the lead in the 58th minute. Yuta Kinowaki scored his second goal of the season leaving Baretto no chance.


The second half was a smooth sailing for Aizawl FC until the 67th minute, Emma Chigozie brought down Ranti Martins inside the box, the referee points the penalty spot. Ranti Martins calmly takes his penalty shot and sends Goal keeper Poirei in the wrong direction. At this point the home team is leading on goal but a man down.


Aizawl FC starts to show signs of panic as the away team attack in numbers and made invasive runs down the flanks delivering dangerous cross balls into the box. In the 85th Ranti Martins converted from the numerous cross balls, finishing it off with a powerful and directed header.


Ranti Martins completed his hat-trick two minutes later and registered his second hat-trick of the season. The goal silenced the crowd, the roaring crowds of the first half were silenced, and the silence of the football loving fans was simply heart breaking.
