Aizawl FC 2-0 AIFF U-19

 

Aizawl FC the defending champions of the Independence Day Football Tournament played their second match of the I-Day Football Tournament 2016 today against a selection of the Nation’s finest under 19 players. The Under 19 team have some of their players missing the game due to injury while Aizawl FC have to play without their veteran Captain Rohmingthanga who is down with sickness. The match witnessed the best crowd in the current I-Day Football Tournament, it’s obvious the football lovers want to watch the best of Mizoram playing against the best under 19 players that India can assemble. The fans who came to watch the match went home watching their moneys’ worth of footballing extravaganza.

Aizawl FC’s Coach Mala made some changes to the starting eleven that lose 2-1 in their first match of the tournament against Chanmari FC, Lalremsanga and Bright Mends played upfront, reliable wing back Ricky started the match after missing the first match, Goalkeeper Opa too started the match in place of T.Mawia, last but not the least B.Thara played in the middle.

 

The First Half

 

The weather is just about right as the match kicks off under the overcast sky in Aizawl, the tempo is high, the youngsters of the Indian camp have a good start as they had a threat on goal in the early minutes of the game, but goalkeeper Lalawmpuia rushed out in time to keep his goal safe.

 

The AIFF -19 team continued to have the better half of the ball and continued in their search for goal, but Aizawl FC’s backline stood tall against the youngsters time and again.

 

Aizawl FC was the first to score a goal as Bright Mends scored his first goal for his new team in the 38th minute. Brandon lobbed the ball across the face of goal, Bright Mends headed the ball into goal amidst the bustle between AIFF U-19’s defenders and goalkeeper.

 

Aizawl FC scored their second goal of the match at the edge of the first half, left back Ricky received the ball 25yards out, settles the ball and powers his shot past the keeper.

 

The Second Half

 

After the restart Aizawl FC have two goal cushions that they can defend, but the first I-League team from Mizoram decided to play their attacking cards. Aizawl FC were clearly the better team in the second half, B.Thara truly made a name for himself in the middle of the park, the youngsters had a really hard time dealing with Aizawl FC’s Jersey Number 7, the midfielder linked well with defensive midfielder Bta to break the play of AIFF U-19.

 

Aizawl FC had their chance to increase their lead in the 70th minute after Albert was brought down inside the penalty box, but Chullova sends the ball wide off target.

 

Ghanaian forward Bright Mends too lost his chance to score but was unable to direct his shot towards goal.

 

The referee have to stop play three times due to heavy fog, in this part of the country conditions can change very fast due to rain and high winds.

 

The fog clears and play was resumed, but both teams were unable to score. The referee blows his whistle to end the match, the final score reads Aizawl FC 2-0 AIFF U-19.
