Aizawl FC 0-1 Salgaocar FC

Posted on Friday, April 15, 2016

We played our last home match of the season against Salgaocar FC, the stakes are high - a win will put us out of the relegation zone, a draw or a loss will land us in a very undesirable situation. Aizawl FC fans turned up in amazing numbers, they came not because the match is the last home match of the season, they came to cheer their team for a win. In our first encounter with the visitors, the game ended 1-1, Darryl Duffy was on target for the home team, Msa made no mistake from the penalty spot to keep the score level at 1-1 and go home with a point. The second meeting ended with a different story, both teams are desperate for a win, the away team went home with all three points in their back. A Darryl Duffy strike is enough to give the away team the one goal lead that they firmly hold till the end of the match, the home team throw all they can and all they know to turn the game, but their efforts were in vain, they were aggressive but it was not the most impressive.

The match kicks off with both teams on their attacking foot right off the first whistle, we did have the upper hand in the game like we always do and had a hard time breaking the back line of our visitors, the two Goa'n teams did their defensive home work well, we are unable to score a goal against our visitors from Goa. We've had our share of chances but our inability to hit the target led us to desperation, Salgaocar FC did their part, played a well planned game, fast on the counter and disciplined at the back.

Goal - Darryl Duffy was fouled at the edge of the box, the Goa'n forward took the free kick, his powerful low shot to the far post beats the wall and the keeper.

The men in red gave their all for their fans, Albert was the most entertaining player for the home team from start to finish, his exploits on both flanks did create a lot of trouble for the visitors.

The second half was very much the same story without goals, Salgaocar FC defended well and held on to their one goal lead till the end of the game.

Joel Sunday Ayeni created the best chances for the home team, the Goa'n defenders had a hard time keeping the lanky  forward silent, if only it was his lucky day the striker would have two goals in his name, Joel was denied by the woodwork twice. This

The statistics showed that we are the better team, but what are statistics without results. The team needed a win, we had more possession of the ball, more attempts on goal, more corners but Salgaocar FC scored the only goal of the match and managed to defend their lead till the end of the game.
