Aizawl FC became the Champions of MFA Super Cup and have lifted their first ever Super Cup trophy and won the Fair play award as well. Coach Malsawmkima guided his team in the path of champions, conceding no goals in the path to the championship.

A lone strike from attacking midfielder B. Zoramthara is enough for the Independence Day & Mizoram Premier League Champions to win their first Super Cup.

Both teams are free of injury and suspension and fielded their strongest line up for the final showdown, the crowds are in for a treat as both teams have some of the best players we can find in the state.

The First Half

The game started fast and furious, the weather is bright and sunny, a perfect day for a great football match.

Chanmari FC had an attempt on goal a few minutes after the start, the shot went straight at the keeper.

Bright Mends was the man to watch in the early minutes as the centre forward made his beautifully calculated forward runs beating the offside trap twice, the Ghanaian took his first attempt on goal ten minutes after the start put his shot was over powered and went over the bar.

B.Thara was at the right spot at the right time to tap the first and only goal of the match in the 19th minute from a corner kick that ricochets right in his foot.

Malsawmfela the top scorer of the Super Cup too tried his luck after turning a defender and takes a shot, for the second time Chanmari FC’s forward players directed their shot straight at the goalkeeper, easy dealings for Lalawmpuia.

Chanmari FC’s best chance of the game came at the edge of the first half, Fela Zote was clear off the defender and went 1v1 with Opa but the keeper went down quick enough to keep his goal save and keep his streak of clean sheets alive.

Aizawl FC failed to double their lead at the added minutes as Albert and Thara both failed to take a directed shot at goal a few yards away from goal.

The Second Half

After the restart Aizawl FC’s Coach K.Malsawmkima decided to go for goal and play an attacking game instead of defending their one goal lead, Chanmari FC on the other hand is forced to play an attacking game.

Aizawl FC was the first to threaten the goal in the second half, Bright Mends beats the offside trap for a faceoff with Chanmari FC’s keeper Muanawma and the custodian stood his ground and pulled the save of the game to give his team a fighting chance till the end of the game.

The Ghanaian continued to be the main threat for Chanmari FC, the lone striker managed to take his chances on goal and create chance for his mates as well.

Chanmari FC tried their best for an equaliser and made substitutions for more attacking powers at the wing in the name Lalmuanzova but the winger failed to shine in front of the best defender award winner Ricky Lallawmawma.

With ten minutes of play remaining Aizawl FC’s Coach saw the stability of his team and made substitutions allowing his academy graduates to have their shot at the Final of the Super Cup, VL Thazuala and Rochharzela came in for goal scorer B.Thara and Brandon.

Aizawl FC continue to have the upper hand in the game and managed to threaten Chanmari FC’s backline but continuously failed to find the final shot.

Aizawl FC played their attacking game for a game killer while Chanmari FC did their best for an equaliser, a solo goal from B. Thara was enough to give Aizawl FC their first ever Super Cup Champion Trophy.

A perfect way to start a season winning the Independence Day Football Tournament 2016 with both our Mens & Womens team and the Super Cup 2016.
