Aizawl FC 3-2 Chhinga Veng FC

A late Brandon Lalremdika goal gave Aizawl FC victory in a very entertaining Independence Day 2016 match against Chhinga Veng FC.

Chhinga Veng FC had a better game in the first half and was able to keep their goal safe for the first half.

But Aizawl FC pulled their game up and turned the tide of the game in the second half.

Aizawl FC put the scores on level terms in the 55th minute by a goal from academy graduate Rochharzela and later took the lead in the 90th minute with a strike by another academy graduate Remsanga.

The lead was short as Chhinga Veng FC won a penalty after the ball hit the wrist of Lalruatthara inside the box, M.S Dawngliana made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Brandon came to the rescue in the last minute of the game to end the game 3-2 in favor of Aizawl FC

Bright Mends played the role of the lone striker for the first time.

The First Half

Aizawl FC’s faithful fans turned up for the game to cheer for their team but Chhinga Veng FC supporters far outnumbered the I-League Club supporters, this shows the level of support and the love of football. The weather is hot and the fans are loud, both teams responded to the vociferous fans in a high tempo game.

Chhinga Veng FC looked dangerous on the counter and played a good game overall while Aizawl FC failed to play their fluent game in the attacking third, creating no threat for Chhinga Veng FCs’ goalkeeper.

Khawpuimawia who scored the winning goal against Aizawl FC during his stint at Dinthar FC once again scored against Aizawl FC. The striker beats Chullova at the edge of the box and drove the ball towards goal, placed his shots low to the far post beyond the reach of T Mawia.

The Second Half

Aizawl FC changed their playing tactics, the half time talks did wonders for the men in red.

Rochharzela scored the equalizer 10 minutes after the restart, his first goal for Aizawl FC. The Aizawl FC Academy graduate received the ball from Brandon after Ghanaian forward Bright Mends dummies the ball for Rochharzela who settles the ball with his deft first touch and with his second touch the winger whips the ball home to the bottom corner.

Aizawl FC took the lead in the 90th minute with a strike from Lalremsanga another Aizawl FC Academy graduate. Bright Mends sends Remsanga clear for a 1v1 with Chhinga Veng FC’s goalkeeper, the young forward placed his shot in the near post sending the goal keeper in the opposite direction.

Four minutes of play was added and the lead was short as Chhinga Veng FC won a penalty after a handball by Ruatthara inside the box. M.S Dawngliana top scorer of Mizoram Premier League Season 1 stepped up to take the kick and made no mistake to level the score at 2-2.

At 90+2mins the game was set for a draw until Brandon scored the match winner.

Bright Mends receives the ball from a throw in, beats his marker and lobbed the ball for Brandon who stands unmarked, the winger took his time to settle the ball and powers his match winning goal to the top corner.

Aizawl FC fought for a much needed win, with todays’ win we are level on points with group leader Chanmari FC who have a game in hand. The next match is against Chanmari West FC, anything better than a defeat will take us to the Semi-Final of the Independence Day Football Tournament 2016.
