It was a dull encounter but a test of ability for Aizawl FC as Head Coach K.Malsawmkima fielded his players who haven’t started much this season, Bungkawn FC played their defensive game and failed to create much work for our goalkeeper.

Aizawl FC’s first game of the Super Cup 2016 started rather slow in our match against Bungkawn FC, the gap in talent was evident. Bungkawn FC lacked the energy and determination, Aizawl FC too was over zealous as the players took turns at goal but failed for the first forty five minutes.

The Independence Day Champion had their best chance of the game thirty minutes into the game as they have their effort denied by the woodwork twice.

The second half was different with the introduction of Ghanaian forward Bright Mends, Head Coach K. Malsawmkima made it evident that he want goals.

Aizawl FC was clearly the better team in the second half as the men in white attacked their opponents left, right and center.

Bright Mends scored the opening goal in the 60th minute as he leaped high to head the ball beyond the reach of the goal keeper.

Captain Rohmingthanga scored with his solo effort, dribbling past a defender and raced past another to tuck the ball to the far post.

It’s Bright Mends again in the score sheet in the 90th minute as he directed a powerful downward header off a crossball from Aizawl FC Academy graduate Lalawmpuia Hnamte.

Aizawl FC will face a stern test in the quarter final against Mizoram Premier League club Bethlehem Vengthlang FC, a team that enjoyed a comfortable 6-1 win over Tuidam FC in their first match of the Super Cup 2016, with today’s win Aizawl FC is a step closer to the Final of the Super Cup 2016.
